The brilliant Axel Scheffler has produced a book about Covid-19 Coronavirus just for children - and it's available as a FREE download. Please share so it's available to every family who needs it.

The Gruffalo illustrator worked with consultant Professor Graham Medley, two head teachers and a psychologist to make sure the book got the messages right, answering questions about quarantine, how you can catch the virus and what happens if you get ill.

Online Safety - Respect Me

Children and young people may be spending more time online at home than usual. For most, the internet will remain a fun and helpful tool to stay connected, however increased time online also comes with risks, and in times of uncertainty incidences of prejudice-based bullying and hate crime can rise. We have created a new tip sheet to help parents and carers keep their children safe when it comes to online bullying.

Lisa, our training officer, has also filmed a series of short videos aimed at expanding on the tip sheet and providing parents and carers with practical advice to deal with incidents of online bullying.

Lifelink

Lifelink are  encouraging referrals for individuals that may not feel they require formal one-to-one counselling sessions but do feel that they would benefit from simply having someone qualified to talk to about anything they’re struggling with at the moment. We know that the current situation may leave a lot of individuals worried about getting in touch with us because they think that our team will be too busy dealing with other clients whose mental health situation is much worse, but we want to dispel this belief. We’re keen to encourage referrals from clients who might benefit from our more relaxed service during this pandemic – working with a therapist for a single session and developing some coping strategies may be enough to greatly improve their mental health.

Referrals can be made online lifelink.org.uk/make-a-referral or by giving us a call on 0141 552 4434.

Parentline

Just to highlight that Children 1st are still running Parent line during lockdown. This might be a useful link of parents struggling to cope and who don’t have anyone to talk to.

They can also offer money advice etc.
